Vaccinations
A complete overview of the vaccination and deworming protocols for every HillSide Paws puppy
Puppy Vaccination Program
Proper vaccination is one of the most important steps in protecting your Dachshund puppy's health. At HillSide Paws, we follow a veterinarian-approved vaccination schedule that meets or exceeds the guidelines set by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA). Every puppy leaves our care with age-appropriate vaccinations completed and documented.
Vaccination Schedule
Below is the complete vaccination timeline your puppy follows while in our care and what you will need to continue with your veterinarian:
DHPP - 1st Dose
Distemper, Hepatitis, Parainfluenza, Parvovirus
The first core vaccine is administered at 6 weeks of age. This combination vaccine begins building immunity against four serious canine diseases. Administered by our licensed veterinarian at HillSide Paws.
Administered by HillSide PawsDHPP - 2nd Dose + Bordetella
DHPP booster + Bordetella bronchiseptica
The second DHPP dose strengthens the developing immune response. Bordetella vaccine is also administered at this time to protect against kennel cough, a highly contagious respiratory infection.
Administered by HillSide PawsDHPP - 3rd Dose
Distemper, Hepatitis, Parainfluenza, Parvovirus
The third DHPP dose continues to build robust immunity. Depending on your puppy's age at pickup, this dose may be administered by your own veterinarian. We will advise you accordingly.
May be administered by your veterinarianDHPP - Final Dose + Rabies
Final DHPP booster + Rabies vaccine
The final DHPP booster completes the puppy vaccination series. The Rabies vaccine is administered at 16 weeks as required by law in most states. This is typically handled by your veterinarian.
Administered by your veterinarianDeworming Schedule
All HillSide Paws puppies are dewormed on a regular schedule starting from 2 weeks of age. Intestinal parasites are common in young puppies and routine deworming is essential for their health and development.
First deworming treatment administered
Second deworming treatment
Third deworming treatment
Fourth deworming, internal and external parasites
Fifth treatment, fecal test performed
Continued biweekly until pickup
After bringing your puppy home, we recommend continuing deworming every 2 to 4 weeks until 16 weeks of age, then transitioning to a monthly heartworm and parasite prevention program as directed by your veterinarian.

Important: Keep Your Puppy Safe During Vaccination Period
Until your puppy has completed the full DHPP vaccination series (all 4 doses by 16 weeks), avoid exposing them to areas frequented by unvaccinated dogs, such as dog parks, pet stores, and unfamiliar outdoor spaces. Socialization is important, but should be done safely with known, vaccinated dogs in clean environments.
